HOW TO WRITE YOUR CV

Writing a great CV can be challenging, but with a few key tips and strategies, you can make your CV stand out and impress potential employers. Here are some steps to follow:

  1. Tailor your CV to the job: Read the job description carefully and highlight the key skills and requirements. Make sure to include these in your CV, using similar language where possible. Give air time to the most important requirements of the job you are applying for first and foremost on your CV and priotise the order of bullet points to the reflect this.

  2. Structure your CV: Your CV should have a clear structure, with headings and sections that are easy to read. Start with your personal information, followed by a summary or objective statement, education, professional qualifications, work experience, skills, and any additional relevant sections.

  3. Highlight your achievements: Rather than simply listing your job duties, focus on your accomplishments in each role. Use specific, quantifiable examples to demonstrate how you added value to the organisation. Remember "I" versus "We" as employers will want to know about your contribution specifically.

  4. Use strong action verbs: Begin bullet points with strong action verbs such as "managed," "developed," or "achieved." This will make your accomplishments stand out.

  5. Keep it concise: Some people suggest that CV's should be no longer than 2 pages however, at Resourcery Group we say keep it relevant, particularly in the more recent years. Employers are unlikely to read 4 pages plus from roles many years ago that aren't relevant to the role you are applying for. Use bullet points and clear, concise language to keep it easy to read.

  6. Use keywords: Many employers use software to scan CVs for keywords, particularly those that use an ATS (Applicant Tracking System). Make sure to include relevant keywords from the job description in your CV.

  7. Proofread: Your CV should be free of spelling and grammatical errors. Read it over carefully and consider having a friend or family member review it as well.

By following these steps, you can create a strong, professional CV that showcases your skills and achievements, and makes a strong impression on potential employers.
