CHRISTIAN LAWRENCE JOINS RESOURCERY TO LAUNCH OUR NEW PROPERTY & CONSTRUCTION DIVISION
Christian started life as a Chartered Surveyor before making the switch to professional Property recruitment where he has amassed over 20 years’ experience sourcing and placing property professionals in both the UK and New Zealand. He has spanned the whole property life cycle from development and acquisition, through project deliverer and realisation, into asset and facilities management. It’s fair to say that within his division of Property & Construction there isn’t much he hasn’t covered!
Q: So Christian, welcome to Resourcery Group!
A: Thanks, it’s great to be back in the North West!
Q: What have you been doing in recent years?
A: Playing to my strengths in Property Recruitment albeit operating in the New Zealand marketplace. I took the opportunity to effectively run my own operation based in Auckland and really enjoyed the scope to run things ‘my way’.
Partnering with key clients and providing more strategic career advice to candidates was a step-change for me from leading on more formulaic recruitment. Essentially taking me into the realms of management consultancy.
Q: What made you choose Resourcery Group?
A: Continuation of my last point really. Resourcery Group very much aligns with that outlook and a shared vision of how and where professional recruitment should sit.
To use Josh Stirrett’s cooking analogy, there is all right ingredients in place and collective knowledge of the best recipes. I hope to add some more chef’s flair into the mix too!
Additionally, knowing and having worked with most of the Management Team previously was key – people always are. The tenure of the business and its infrastructure, I felt, provided the ideal platform to launch a new service-line. Property & Construction in my case. When you have got more experience, you’re naturally more selective. The shared values, entrepreneurial mindsets and unencumbered environment to operate from cemented my decision.
Q: What’s your impression of the Property & Construction recruitment market at present?
A: Generally speaking there are strong levels of activity and demand for talent. Whilst phases like ‘cautious optimism’ get banded around in real estate I feel this is just the best expression at times of some unknowns, What I enjoy are the differences between our sub-sectors and property asset classes. Having a deeper insight into how each of these is performing provides a better barometer and then looking how those asset types interrelate. As an example, looking at how high-street retail is performing needs to encompass how shopping centre retail, out-of-town retail, on-line retail (bringing in industrial and logistics property) and leisure property markets are also performing.
Post-covid is still bringing about lots of change and working with colleagues who are covering the financial and change-management side will certainly help me get a stronger read on this and where the activity will be. In the meantime, its great catching up with contacts in my networks to get those specialist views and drinking lots of coffee at the same time!
Q: Is there anything else you want to add?
A: Just really looking to forward to developing the Division and then scaling-up to cover the core areas of Senior/Executive Appointments, Contract, Permanent and Interim placements.
The Property discipline has always aligned well with Accountancy & Finance, HR and the other professions we cover so this bodes well.
